Systems Administrator with a Focus on Cultural Heritage

The Music and Theatre Library provides services to students, researchers, professionals in music, theatre, and dance, as well as to the general public. The library has a large collection of sheet music across all genres and ensembles, play scripts, books on music and theatre, and journals. The library also houses a significant collection of rarities, as well as extensive archival materials and digital collections.

The Music and Theatre Library is part of the Swedish Performing Arts Agency, which is a government agency tasked with preserving, promoting, and making accessible the cultural heritage of theatre, dance, and music, as well as promoting a varied musical offering characterized by artistic renewal and high quality. Here you will find unique archives, one of the world's largest collections of musical instruments, one of Europe's leading music libraries, and world-class studios for electronic music. The agency operates with a citizen perspective in focus. The Swedish Performing Arts Agency is under the Ministry of Culture and includes the Music and Theatre Library, the Swedish Folk Music Archive, Caprice Music, the Performing Arts Museum, and the Electronic Music Studio.

The Swedish Performing Arts Agency is now seeking a systems administrator with a focus on cultural heritage for the Music and Theatre Library.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will work with the library's collection management system (open source) and digital catalogs. Your main focus will be programming, customization, and updates primarily of the systems VuFind, Atom, and Koha. You will collaborate closely with the systems librarian and other colleagues in the department, and also contribute your expertise to other parts of the organization. Some duties at the information and lending desk are included in the position.

You will have a central role in the work with and development of our systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university or college degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent knowledge through practical experience.
  • Documented professional experience in programming.
  • Documented professional experience in working with metadata.
  • Knowledge of Linux.
  • Proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

  • Experience in the operation and development of open source systems.
  • Experience in working with PHP and Perl.
  • Familiarity with MARC, JSON, and XML.
  • Experience from the archive or library sector.
  • Knowledge of performing arts (music, theatre, dance) as this is the library's main focus.

EMPLOYMENT

Permanent employment with a workload of 100%. Start date September 1 or by agreement. The agency applies a 6-month probationary period.

The work takes place on-site at the library's premises at Tegeluddsvägen 100 in Stockholm, with some possibility for remote work.
